Getinge Shanghai Training 2015

Impressive response on 3rd Maquet training courses in Shanghai, China

The Getinge showroom, auditorium and training academy in Shanghai played host to two educational programs for intensive care clinicians: Mechanical Ventilation Training and ECMO Training.

The two interactive courses used actual patient cases and how-to exercises to address both technological issues and the special circumstances of extracorporeal physiology and mechanical ventilation. Both events were well attended by critical care physicians, ER doctors, nurses and intensivists.

Maquet training Shanghai 2015Participants praised lecturers Prof. Nicolo Patroniti, coordinator of the Italian National Program for ECMO, and Giacomo Grasselli, Clinical Director of the ECMO center in Monza, Italy. “[It was a] very intensive workshop with useful information, helped to have a better understanding about ECMO, even we have worked with it before,” explained Mrs. Yuan, a nurse from Hong Kong who attended the ECMO course. “Great speaker, great event.”

Dr. Sonchai Hiranniramol from Thailand attended both sessions. “[The speaker was] very professional, a high-technology/modern facility, great organization; the mix between theoretical and the practical hands-on was excellent. We really learned something.”

The instructors were also pleased with the way the program turned out. “[The] course was very positive, people were more and better prepared compared to other courses we do. Most of the people have had lower practical experience; the majority of the participants never did ECMO before (80%) and asked many questions, which was very positive,” explained Prof. Nicolo Patroniti. “Attendees are very hungry and willing to learn, they really want to know what they are doing.”

Maquet training Shanghai 2015There are already plans to follow up with a larger event that attracts a more international audience in 2016.  “After so many years it was the first time for me in Shanghai and I’m positively surprised about this great Academy,” said Mr. Ernest Briones, Divison Manager Critical Care, Sales & Service Unit Hong Kong. “The auditorium is great for this kind of event; everyone could see and listen even without microphone. The speakers were great and for us a pleasure to have them here – They make difficult things easy to understand. I’ll come back and invite more customers to this event.”

The Academy is comprehensively outfitted with multimedia training tools, an operating theater and an ICU with an emergency unit. It opened in 2013 and is equipped with products from all three business areas of Getinge Group: Maquet, ArjoHuntleigh and Getinge Infection Control.
